Fibres are amazing. But although they are found in every nook and cranny of the natural world, making them ourselves in different ways is still an interesting challenge. In this work (which isn’t about optics) we were inspired by the idea of coflowing reagents of a spider’s spinnerets to construct quite a different system. In the process we found some interesting effects in non-Newtonian fluids, and managed to make some fibres of our own too.
